Tara Vassallo
Family Advocate
Hi, I'm Tara and work within the Family Advocacy team.
I am part of the neurodivergent family and have worked closely with the autistic community as an autistic ally and family advocate for more than fifteen years, both in the UK and Australia.
I am a lecturer and researcher in child development and inclusive education at the University of Plymouth’s Institute of Education. My principal research interest is inclusion, specifically autism and neurodiversity more widely, with a focus on systemic practice and family systems.
My doctoral research centred on the development of the attachment-based systemic family therapy programme ‘SAFE with Schools’ [SwiS]; exploring its application within education, supporting parents, teachers, and the child they share care of to develop closer relationships and more effective problem-solving as they navigate the SEND system together.
