First you/your child will be offered a psychological pre-diagnostic assessment (£130) to learn what you or your child’s needs might be. You might be unsure of whether you/child needs a full assessment or whether something else might be happening for you/them, so a pre-diagnostic psychology session is here to reassure you and provide with some answers you might need.
For a full diagnostic assessment the number of sessions and time needed can depend, an Autism or ADHD assessment can take about 2-4 sessions. We will be transparent with you to let you know what is needed and how long it will take, once We have met with you.
Things you are likely to be asked to do:
● Fill out some questionnaires
● Have an interview about your life and your needs
● Provide a person we can speak with, who knew you in your childhood, preferably a parent or caregiver. If these people are not available to you, having someone who has known you for a while and knows you well, is helpful.
● Do a standardised assessment where we will do some activities and answer some questions.
-
At the end of the assessment I will inform you as to whether you meet the criteria for Autism and/or ADHD. If you do not meet the criteria I will give you an explanation as to why you present as you do.
I will provide you with a full and comprehensive assessment report for why the decision was made. I will also provide you with a short summary letter.
I will provide you with recommendations for what might be helpful for you moving forward.
● For example, if you are a young person, I will provide recommendations for; school/college/uni, family and what you might need support with in the future.
● For example, if you are an adult, I will provide recommendations for; work, managing relationships and support you might need e.g. from a therapist.
I know a range of helpful organisations and resources that could help you.
I can provide sessions to support you after your diagnosis, this is at an additional fee. You might want to explore the diagnosis or recommendations or coaching or want therapy if you have experienced difficulties and traumas.
